Latest Poker Run News

Folks:

I spoke with Larry and Carl this weekend and we want all volunteers for the Poker Run to meet at the WBTS Museum on Sat. morning at 8:30AM.  Remember to bring your door prizes, coolers, drinks/water, banners, flags, cameras, etc.  We will divide up and assign everyone a place to be and a job to do.  We will help the Red Doe folks get the tables and chairs out to Red Doe and Shuckers.  Bring your shotgun raffle tickets as well.  Larry has a couple of signs made up for use at both sites.

Sandy...I need you to pass this on to Gretchen and everyone else that will help but is not on my list.  I also need the flag stakes and camp flags out at Red Doe.  I will bring a couple of new flags to fly on the pole out there.

Any questions or suggestions, please contact me.

Thanks
Ken Howle, Commander

Website

Greetings Rifles:

I just wanted to let everyone know that the website in process can be seen at www.peedeerifles.homestead.com.  This location is temporary until we get the peedeerifles.org domain worked out.

Warmest Regards ...

Poker Run

OK folks...we are one week away from the Poker Run on the 4th.  We did some planning at the last meeting and here is a breakdown of what we need to do.

1)  We need some folks at Shucker's to help take up money, sale raffle tickets, and pass out cards.  I think Gretchen had volunteered to help out there, but let's get at least 3 or four members there.

2) We need folks out at Red Doe.  Here, I believe Lee and Sandy volunteered to be out.  We need to get some tables and chairs out there from the Museum, as well as the Pee Dee Rifles banner (Sandy or Marshall I believe has that), some flags, etc.  We need Red Doe memberships and SCV info out there as well.  I think we decided to pick up some water and maybe some soda to sell out there....so we need coolers and ice.  We need to get the house open for folks to look through.

3)  Carl will need a volunteer or two out at the Museum, perferably folks that help with tours.

4)  Door prizes---we need them as well.  It does not have to be something expensive or extravagant.  Something Confederate or SCV or motorcycle related would be nice.  Carl has a lot of goodies for sale at the Museum that would work nicely.  Pick something up and donate it for a prize.

5)  It may serve us to have all the volunteers meet somewhere a couple of hours before the start to coordinate our plans.  I would recommend the Museum at 8AM or so.  I'll get a more definite grip on this and shoot an e-mail ASAP.

Remember:  Larry and the Cav. are running the show and we are there to assist them.  Let's show the riders how dedicated we are and have a good show of volunteers to do just that.  Be sure to thank them as well.  Also...if you have wives, kin, or friends that want to help out...bring'em with you!

Thanks everyone!---Ken Howle, Commander

Ancestor Memorials

Compatriots:

I urge you all to check out the new website.  Brian has been working real hard on it to get it where we want it.  In a few days, you will be able to submit an ancestor memorial.  I have already sent him a list I compiled for CMD.  Look it over first.  If your ancestor is there, you can submit additional info such as wounds, captured, where imprisoned, were surrendered, killed, died, etc.  Please keep it short and sweet.  If you have more than one DIRECT ancestor, you are welcome to submit them all.  If you have collateral ancestors, please only submit the one you joined the SCV under (for now).  If your ancestor is on the my list and you see an error, please let Brian know.

This is your website, too.  If you want to submit information, please do so.  If there is something you would like to see on the website, please let Brian know.  Suggestions and comments are always welcome (compliants, take a number...).
